The video above, by Genteq Motors, gives a very good overview of how your average residential furnace works. For those of us, however, who has no life and would like to know more we will go into a little more detail in this article covering the history of heating homes to the difference between gas and electric.
Air Handler / Furnace
When you have electric heat it is called an air handler. When you have a gas heater it’s called a furnace. Up north you may have an oil burner, but that is also called a furnace. What they all have in common is a fan that circulates air in the house.

Krystal Burger has finally come to Kenner, Louisiana! Is Marrero part of Jefferson Parish? Because if not then this would be the first Krystals in Jefferson Parish let alone Kenner. There’s one in New Orleans, one in Marrero and this one in Kenner.
I will admit I am very fond of the food myself, but I must abstain as it gives me heartburn. The people, however, are awesome! I have never met a friendlier group of managers and workers at a fast food restaurant. Granted these guys may be some of the only people I’ve ever really talked to, but… what not… Oh, I almost forgot to mention, it’s on 3117 Loyola Dr if you’re trying to type it into your gps. Enjoy the pictures!
Krystal… under construction.
Ah… someone forgot to cut a bigger opening for the cooler box door. There’s always something… It’s what makes this job fun 🙂
The concrete slab was just a tiny bit shorter than the box.
You always do the corner last. In case you wanted to know… it’s just easier that way.
Bearded beast man of the year Dennis and employee of the month Marcus putting some finishing touches on the box.
Krystals on Loyola as seen from behind.
LAPONICA ROCKS! I got nothing for this picture.
Freezer (left) and cooler (right)
Future site for a backdoor.
This is the cooler they wanted us to re-use. OMG! No, but joking aside some bleach might do the trick. We haven’t built them a new one yet, so I’m sure it’s fine.
The electrician thought it would be smart to go through the roof for the lighting.
From what I heard Krystals went through 3 different electrical contractors on this job. Go figure.
Almost done. Just need to cut the excess off.
The drain line from the evaporator can be seen on the bottom right of this picture and the high/low pressure between evaporator and condenser on the roof top left.
Employee of the month Marcus Haug can be seen here doing… something…

Laponica’s token black guy – Tony Buddah Brownie – saves driver from unlikely death
Friday August 29th all is quiet and well around Bainbridge. A quiet cool breeze is blowing and the soothing sounds, reminiscent of birds chirping or raindrops on leaves, of 757 passenger planes taking off from Louis Armstrong International can be heard in the background. Laponica Refrigeration, located in Kenner right behind the airport, had recently hired their very own tolken black guy – Tony Buddah Brownie (his name has been distorted to protect his identity); this come to find out was a very good idea, because he nearly saved a life this faithful morning.
“Jimmy was at the firetruck when I seen the truck tipped over and I still beat him running over there,” says Tony.
While sanding (slaving in the heat) a forklift Tony noticed our neighbor Jimmy running down the street towards a truck that had just tipped over. Tony jumped up on the side of the truck, pulled down the side window, and heroically helped the driver get out.
Jimmy was at the firetruck when I seen the truck tipped over and I still beat him running over there – Tony
According to Tony: when he had pulled the side window down the driver lamented, “I told him it was top heavy. I told him it was.” To which Tony quickly replied, “Don’t worry about the truck dude. How are you?”
The driver, with perhaps an exception to his pride, had only a few nicks/bruises and was otherwise in overall good health. First responders came very quickly and closed off the streets making it very difficult to go home… And that’s the latest at Bainbridge.
Laponica Refrigeration is looking at buying a used forklift from one of our seafood plant customers. I, Ole Andreas Haug, have decided to name it The Rusty Skipper! At least that’s what I’m thinking right now. I will accept some other ideas.
Laponica Refrigeration is a family operated small business located in Kenner, Louisiana. We are a full service and state licensed mechanical contractor for A/C, Heating and Commercial Refrigeration.
At first we managed to create a draft table with a smaller computer side table for our techs to do paperwork. The techs have a chair, but whoever is drafting looks like they will have to use a step stool.
Nah, never mind. The owner, Ragnar Haug, is likely the one who will be using the draft table most often. Hence a nice expensive Rheem bar stool. Too bad the floor isn’t even.
One of our first vehicles gets sold and towed away.
So long work truck! You served us well.
What are they unloading?
Yay! We can finally put up some partitions!
This is not ours, nor our neighbors, but our neighbor is fixing it.
Cool bike. Old school.
This is now a draft room. Photos soon to come.
I am not sure if these photos have ever been posted before… they are now. When we first moved into our office/warehouse on Bainbridge we had to build some partitions to divide our side from the rest. Special thanks to Dennis (the guy with the beard) and his father Paul (the old guy) for their work on the partitions.
